Absence Absence

Parents have an obligation to see that their child attends school. If a child is absent from school for any reason, parents must notify the school. This may bedone by telephone but on return to school, a letter explaining the reason for absence must be given to the class teacher.

Unauthorised Pupil Absence
In accordance with the Department of Education regulations, the school has to monitor authorised/unauthorised absences and the annual figures for the unauthorised absences will be published.

  1. The school must report to the Lancashire Education Authority any pupil absent for two weeks or more, or any inconsistent pupil attendance, if such absences are not explained by a satisfactory written note or medical certificate
  2. Late arrival at school is considered to amount to failure to attend school regularly. If it is a common occurrence the Local Education Authority has to be informed
  3. Requests for absence must be made in advance as the Headteacher is authorised to grant leave for up to 10 working days during term time but only in very exceptional circumstances.

Under current legislation it is a statutory requirement that permission must be obtained from the school for children to be absent during term time. Parents should make their request in writing to the Headteacher. If there is no written request or permission is not granted, the absence will be noted as unauthorised.
