Year 5 have been learning about properties of materials. We had to separate a mixture of sand, salt and drawing pins without putting our fingers in the mixture. We really had to think hard about how to do it and used a variety of methods. We used a magnet to remove the drawing pins, then added water to dissolve the salt and filtered the remaining mixture. We discovered that dissolving salt is a reversible change.
